JINX PRESENTS: THE ROADTRIP

THE ROADTRIP

JINX

“It’s all about the journey, not the destination.”

It’s a saying we love, so, we’ve decided to test it out through a format called The Road Trip.

The Road Trip is an improv show in which three characters travel together. On their journey they talk, fight, fall in and out of love and God knows what else. In other words, it’s just like any other road trip that you take with your friends that you’ll always remember, even if you forgot where it was you were supposed to go…

ABOUT THE TEAM

JINX

Romania

Delia, Dan, and George started performing together in various formats and shows since 2016. As they got used to each other’s styles of doing improv, they all thought to themselves: “Man, it would be nice to do a show with these other two…”. They quickly blossomed and you could smell their chemistry from a mile away.

After the debut of their format “The Road Trip” they felt SPECTACULAR! Since then they perform together on as many stages and at as many festivals as possible. History is happening as we speak.

PARAPHRASE PRESENTS: UNSPOKEN

UNSPOKEN

PARAPHRASE

Great moments in life are often ruined by words. Could the most important words be the ones left unsaid? What power do words have and how much can be said without them?

In UNSPOKEN, the main character is restricted in the ability to speak, thus limiting the choices and leaving them in an unusual position of silence as the other characters tell their stories using words

ABOUT THE TEAM

PARAPHRASE

Sweden

PARAPHRASE is one of the few impro ensembles in Sweden focusing on improvised drama in English. The three members all have a background in scripted theatre and share an eagerness to experiment and delve into the different layers in a character in impro scenes, in the same manner actors do in scripted theatre.

The ensemble members Stefan, Noha and Tamara all having different origins, brought this cultural breadth with them to Stockholm where they all are based and regularly perform together. Combined, the members have nearly 40 years of theatrical experience

ACT TWO

IMPROVVOICESTRA - ENSEMBLE

IMPROVVOICESTRA

Directed by Martina Pavone

IMPROVVOICESTRA

Improvvoicestra is an a cappella Long Form where improvisers not only perform scenes, but also create an orchestra of voices, enriching the storytelling techniques without the use of any musical instruments.

Players will learn how to find their real voice, its colours, how to use it and the magic of using it to vocalimprovise stories in many different ways in your scenes.

This show explores all the possibilities of acting, voice, and movement, for the perfect marriage between vocal improvisation and improvisational theater, because the power of the music is not just in being a soundtrack to improvisation, but its potential to make it the main focus and touch people’s souls.

PARALLEL - ENSEMBLE

PARALLEL

Directed by Nick Byrne

PARALLEL

Parallel is an unusual, movement-driven long-form where all players are on stage the entire show, using the entire space.

Players work in pairs, developing three different threads that are each a different perspective on any given human-interest topic, and never intersect. Frozen characters from other stories may be like a barrier between you and your partner, or an inanimate object to climb over. Sometimes the scenes all happen at once, and a moving character from another scene may sweep across to change your thought pattern or the atmosphere in your scene.

Sauna is an integral part of Finnish culture and heritage. For centuries, Finns have used Sauna as a place for deep conversation, diplomacy, and even childbirth. Many Finns still go to sauna on a weekly basis. In BARE, JadaJada Improv brings the experience of the Finnish Sauna to the stage. In the Sauna we have the opportunity to sit and discuss life’s many questions, sharing our innermost thoughts and secrets. On the stage we explore these ideas and topics through a series of fun and playful scenes, giving us an opportunity to open up about the things we can only discuss within the safety and comfort of the Sauna – A place where we go to cleanse our souls and bare our bodies.

MAGIC ADVENTURE SCHOOL

Directed by Kaci Beeler

MAGIC ADVENTURE SCHOOL

Taking inspiration from international smash hit young adult fiction such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and The Golden Compass, “Magic Adventure School” creates a ridiculous underground magical world and school that our young protagonist must navigate after leaving their boring and unfulfilling childhood behind them.

Players will rehearse a variety of techniques to make memorable characters, chase compelling stories, and improvise with imagination. This format has lots of room for big characters, familiar relationships, and delightful genre tropes.

MUSICAL LONGFORM - ENSEMBLE

MUSICAL LONG FORM

Directed by Tom Tollenaere

MUSICAL LONG FORM

This Musical Long Form is an exploration of a single suggestion that is interpreted through songs, scenes, and perhaps even choreography.

In rehearsal we will first focus on creating & performing improvised songs, which is something we can all do! We will prove in this ensemble that each of us has been so immersed in (western) pop music, that we all unconsciously know ‘the rules’ of pop music, and we will unlock this unconscious knowledge.

Once everyone is comfortable with the singing part, we work on the structure of the format, including opening and closing numbers.
There is no musical experience needed for this Ensemble, and players don’t even need a good singing voice! You can be tone-deaf and rhythmically challenged, and we’ll still make you sing. And shine.

SATURDAY

JUNE 16th

ACT ONE

MUGSHOT PRESENTS: TRUST ME

TRUST ME

MUGSHOT

Families reunite for all kinds of reasons: a wedding, a funeral, the 60th birthday of the family matriarch.

“Trust Me” is the story of one such family reunion. Or, rather, the same story as experienced by three siblings, each with their very own take on what really happend. During the course of the evening, the characters unveil long-hidden secrets, which, of course, have had an enormous impact on the other two.

The show plays with truth and lies, trust and betrayal, comedy and drama. It is up to the audience to decide which version of each scene is the most credible, and decide whom it trusts most

ABOUT THE TEAM

MUGSHOT

Germany

Claudia Behlendorf, Lena Breuer and Paul Ziehmer are a trio of professional and semi-professional improvisors based in Germany along the Rhine – Germany’s most impressive river.

All three share a passion for comedy, big characters, longform and the Reinheitsgebot, which led them to create their show “Trust me” as the only logical consequence. Claudia specializes in shaking her curly hair in the most impressive ways and meanwhile blowing the audience away with an incredible range of characters, emotions and creativity. Lena is passionate about emotional stories and authentic feelings created in the moment. Lena is also passionate. Fullstop. Paul is well-known for his hilarious sidekicks, his sharp punchlines and his badly performed foreign accents which all sound like Swedish – even if he plays a Russian.

ACT TWO

FREESTYLE IMPROV - ENSEMBLE

FREESTYLE IMPROV

Directed by Trent Pancy

FREESTYLE IMPROV

This ain’t your mama’s musical improv show.

Freestyle Improv is a high-energy show that combines Freestyle Rap & Improvised Comedy. This show mixes the kinetic energy of hip hop with the playful spirit of improv, blending them together with rap battles, beatboxing, and good old-fashioned improv scenes.

There is no experience in rap or musical improv necessary to join this ensemble. Players will learn everything they need to know to throw down a fat beat, spit some slick rhymes, and release the rhythm on stage to uproarious applause. And above all, they’ll learn how to fake it till they make it, because in hip hop, like in improv, it isn’t just what you say, it’s how you say it.

PIXAR - ENSEMBLE

PIXAR

Directed by Laura Doorneweerd

PIXAR

Pixar Improvised draws its inspiration from unique way Pixar stells its stories. Characters are flawed but cute, go on fantastic adventures and have feelings of joy, fear and need for freedom, just like we do in our real lives. Have you ever wondered what is happening in the kitchen drawers? How birds fall in love? Who is playing behind the clouds? Find out, in Pixar Improvised.

Players will explore the different ways of playing objects and animals, focusing on physicality, voices, movement. Then we dive into their everyday lives, exploring their daily habits, their wants, their needs, their relationships and their desires. We will disect the way Pixar approaches storytelling, acting and themes in these worlds. We will discover what is important in the world of a Lego brick, understand the unique relationship a swimming pool jas with a towel, and portray the journey of two hamsters breaking out of their cage.

Most of all, we’ll learn that playing objects and animals can set you free, taking you out of your head, into your body, and sparking the imaginations of player and audience alike.
